*IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT LET HAIR LENGTH EXCEED 1/2 INCH LONG FOR A BRAZILIAN WAX*

This is very important because it makes hair removal more difficult and painful. Longer is not better. If hair is longer than 1 inch, please trim it shorter at home. For sanitary reasons, we do not do this at the salon. Thank you!

HAIR REMOVAL FAQ

DOES WAXING MAKE HAIR GROW BACK THICKER & DARKER?

Absolutely not. Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxing client, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and fine; not coarse and rough. When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble. The only things known to stimulate hair growth are hormones: natural or artificial.

WILL I BENEFIT FROM WAXING VS. SHAVING?

Waxing reduces hair growth when performed every 4 weeks. While shaving crops the hair at the skin's surface, waxing pulls it out by the root, so it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. Waxing is great for those who are tired of the hassle of shaving several times per week. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.

CAN I WORKOUT AFTER MY WAX APPOINTMENT?

I recommend avoiding heavy exercise that will increase perspiration and chaffing for about 24-48 hours after waxing. The bikini, lip, and underarms are where we tend to perspire the most. Perspiration and moisture cause bacteria to grow. Once that area has been waxed, the follicle is wide open to these bacteria creeping in. Apply a little Finipil cream before and after your shower/activity. You can also wear loose-fitting clothes for a couple days after to give your skin a chance to breathe and reduce moisture.

WILL I GET INGROWN HAIRS?

It's always a possibility when removing hair whether you are shaving or waxing. Nufree hair removal removes the entire hair, root and all, from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. We recommend Pharmagel Enzyme Excel Bodyscrub, which is gentle and effective (about 2 days after waxing) and continue to exfoliate GENTLY 1 to 2 times a week thereafter. Remember to use Finipil daily! Finipil is Nufree’s patented antiseptic cream that destroys 99.99% of bacteria, while keeping your empty hair follicle clean, protected, and moisturized. Also protects against ingrown hairs. It is an FDA-registered OTC antiseptic.

I'D LIKE TO WAX PRIOR TO AN EVENT; WHEN SHOULD I COME IN?

If you’re a bride, attending a special occasion or going on vacation, I recommend receiving waxing services 3 days before the event, especially if it is your first Brazilian wax.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY FIRST WAX?

Hairless skin! Everyone's skin reacts differently to waxing treatments, but you may have slight, temporary redness, especially for Brazilian waxing. The best way to maintain your results is by using Finipil aftercare cream daily. It is best to apply this after your shower when your skin is damp and the follicles are clean and open. Use daily for at least 2-3 weeks after your appointment or until hair growth fills back in.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A BRAZILIAN WAX?

A Brazilian wax is the removal of all of the pubic hair, front and back. Some clients opt to have a small shape left such as a rectangular strip or a triangle. If you are removing any hair from either the labia or backside, it is charged out as a Brazilian wax. You decide what stays and what goes!

WHAT IS FINIPIL CREAM AND DOES IT REALLY WORK?

Yes! Finipil is patented, antiseptic cream that destroys 99.99% of bacteria, while keeping your empty hair follicle clean, protected, and moisturized. Also protects against ingrown hairs. It is an FDA-registered OTC antiseptic.

FOR BEST RESULTS, HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET WAXED?

Every 4 weeks is good. Regular waxing is essential if you want the area to thin out. The area will be less sensitive if waxing is done every 4-6 weeks. With regular waxing, over time, the hair follicle will have less and less of a grip on the hair to be pulled and the hairs will come out more easily. Another reason to wax frequently is that you may even experience less hair growth over time.

CAN I SHAVE IN BETWEEN WAX APPOINTMENTS?

Yes, but if you can, try to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process of the hair growth cycle. It's best to not shave, let all the hair grow out until your next waxing appointment, so that more are removed and therefore, grow back in finer.

IS THE WAX YOU USE GOOD FOR SENSITIVE SKIN?

We only use Nufree as its antibacterial and antimicrobial and thus technically not a wax but a soy-based hair remover. It looks like a wax, and the process is the same (i.e., apply liquid product, paper strip, and epilate), but it removes hair better than wax, and is far more gentle on your skin!

Studies show it is 75% less painful than traditional wax! Wax can remove the top layer of skin, leaving it to be very red and feel really sensitive; Nufree, however does not! It is self-regulated at a constant heat temperature of 98.6 degrees. You won’t experience the pain and redness associated with waxing. It’s the gold standard in hair removal.

CAN I GET A BRAZILIAN WAX IF I HAVE MY PERIOD?

Yes, bikini waxing and extended bikini are no problem. For Brazilian waxing, a tampon is ok but the string will need to be tucked in and out of sight from the area for the appointment. We recommend booking your next appointment for either a week before or a week after your cycle, so that it is more comfortable for you.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?

Refrain from taking a shower or bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective. Make sure the hair is the appropriate length for waxing (See above). Make sure that the area(s) to be waxed are clean and the skin is dry. There are certain medications and products that should not be taken or used if you plan to have a waxing treatment soon. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed (such as Retin-A, Renova, and hydroquinone; oral acne medications such as Accutane; and topical/oral cortisone) make the skin more sensitive and thus waxing should be avoided. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure whether you should be waxed while on or using a medication.

HOW LONG DOES A BRAZILIAN WAX TAKE AND IS IT VERY PAINFUL?

It is actually 75% less painful than traditional wax! I have performed Brazilian Waxing for more than 10 years and am quick and efficient. In most cases, it takes no more than 15 minutes from start to finish. The first time is always a little more uncomfortable, but after that, you know exactly what to expect. Most clients are surprised how fast it is and say afterward how it wasn't that bad and that they thought it was going to be a lot worse! The trick is to having the optimum hair length and also to assist me in holding your skin firm. If you are sensitive to pain and are able to take Ibuprofen or Asprin, doing so 1 hour prior to your appointment helps to take the edge off a little.
